Mel Conner shipped out of San Francisco on freighters. He made trips to Peru; while there, he climbed to the Michu Puku ruins, of the Incas in Peru. He was an archeologist, and brought back mementos, including a mummy of a baby and shrunken heads. When we entered into World War II, he was in the Merchant Marine, in the North Atlantic. He was tarpedoed in 1941, and in 1943. In 1945, his ship was bombed in Antwerp. In Nova Scotia, he had a mink farm, and a pool hall. He was a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine; and later, an Engineer, for the city of San Jose, CA. He is the husband of Anne Alice MacDougall Conner (19 May 1916-12 Jul 2006).
