Donald W. Banaszak, of Battle Creek, age 80, died Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at The Oaks at Northpointe Woods. Donald was born on May 5, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Walter and Anna ( Zeliska )Banaszak. He had been a lifelong area resident graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1948. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.

On July 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to the former Joan D. St. Pierre, who survives.

He was employed at the Kellogg Company for 44 years in food processing from 1947 until his retirement in 1991. He was active at Burnham Brook and the Cedar Creek Golf Club. He was an avid Michigan State fan, enjoyed playing golf and playing pool at Burnham Brook.

Surviving are children, Don (Jenni) Banaszak, Rob (Becky) Banaszak, Mark (Sara) Banaszak all of Battle Creek and Jeff (Lori) Banaszak of Galloup, NM; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, David and a sister, Joyce.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with The Rev. Charles H. Fischer officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.

Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association.
