Born July 15, 1837 in Clark County, Illinois, the daughter of Armitage Kenderdine and Tacy Gordon Kenderdine. She married Dr. Benjamin Frankline Buckner on December 23, 1852 in Clark County. Benjamin served in the 62nd Illinois Infantry, Company C. According to the inscription on Rachel's headstone, she served as a nurse during the Civil War. Two of her brother-in-laws served in the war: Allen Buckner, Colonel, 79th Illinois Infantry, and Elisha Evans Buckner, 63rd Illinois Infantry, Company G.
After the war, they lived in Crawford County, Illinois, and in 1880 they were living in Wise County, Texas. Rachel died on June 28, 1912 in Buffalo Gap, Texas.
