He left this earthly state tragically far too soon. He was a devoted son, brother and uncle. Jay died Dec. 21, 1998.
He was born Sept. 1, 1960 in Salt Lake City, to Linden and Norma Whitehead Howcroft.
He loved nature and spent many hours working in his vegetable garden, with most of the harvest given away to family and friends.
Survived by mother, Norma. Sister and brother, Janice Reyes (Henry), Wayne Howcroft (Johnna). Nieces and nephews, Tracey Hansen, Troy, Todd, Trent and Terry Danvers, Wayne and Isabelle Howcroft.
Funeral services will be held Sat. 12 noon at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary 4760 South State St. where friends may call Sat. one hour prior to service. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.

S.L. man is killed darting into traffic
MAGNA -- A man was killed Monday when he darted into traffic on U-111 near 4100 South.
Killed was:Jay Howcroft, 38, Salt Lake City.
Apparently the man and his girlfriend were on a return trip from Wendover when their car ran out of gas in Magna. They were returning to the car after calling for help when the man crossed U-111 from east to west and was struck by an Isuzu Rodeo, Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Bill Brass said.
Witnesses said the impact sent the man flying through the air about 60 feet before he hit the ground, landing on his head.
