Gilbert Lee Ross, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, Miss.
Born Feb. 23, 1925, in Leachville, Ark., son of the late Walter Lee and Mary Mildred Lewis Ross, he was a U.S. Army veteran, owned a service station and was also a volunteer for the Hornersville Fire Department.
On Jan. 2, 1951, in Paragould, Ark., he married Peggy Mills, who preceded him in death October of 1987. He was also preceded in death by his companion, Kay Holloway.
Survivors include four sisters, Louise Watson, of Senath, Mo., Wayva Hollis and Zaida Cagle, both of Leachville, and Barbara Cole, of Marion, Ill.; five adopted children, Teresa Payne, of Franklinton, La., Anita Cooper and Freida DaVault, both of Paragould, Ark., Bubby Holloway, of Decatur, Miss., and Jason Holloway, of Kennett, and a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services with military honors were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett with Rev. Paul Moore officiating.
Pallbearers were Greg Thomas, Greg Payne, Danny Brown, Mark Brown, Butch Cooper, and Jamie DaVault.
Honorary pallbearer was BoBo Brown.
Bradshaw-Emerson Funeral Home in Hornersville, Mo., was in charge of arrangements.
