DEATH OF MRS. MARY BUNTIN

Came to Carthage in Covered Wagon in 1868 - Funeral Will Be Tomorrow

Mrs. Mary C. Buntin, 80, widow of William H. Buntin, well known mine operator of this district, and resident of Carthage 65 years, died at 1:45 o'clock this morning at her home, 1010 South Clinton street.
She had been in failing health four years and the last five weeks her condition was critical. All of her children were at her bedside when she passed away.
Mrs. Buntin came to Jasper county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Webb, in 1868 from Des Moines, Iowa where she was born May 10, 1854. They made the trip here in covered wagons and settled on a farm southwest of Carthage. They later moved into Carthage and built a house at Grand and Thirteenth, now the Emerson home.
Mrs. Buntin lived there until 1876 when she was married to James Platt, brother of the late C. B. and Harry Platt of Carthage. Mr. Platt died in 1884 and in 1889 Mrs. Buntin married William H. Buntin. Mr. Buntin operated mines in the Carterville field. He passed away in 1912. Mrs. Buntin had lived in the home on Clinton street where she passed away the last 52 years.
Surviving are five children; Mrs. W. C. Gleason, William H. Buntin, Charles E. Platt and Harry C. Platt, all of Carthage and Mrs. T. W. Pitzer of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tmorrow afternoon from the Buntin residence. The Rev. W. L. Reese, pastor of the First Christian church, of which Mrs. Buntin has been a member for many years, will be in charge. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
