"WHERE MARRIAGE FAILED.

A Singular Divorce Case Now On Trial in the Circuit.

A divorce case, John Fierke vs. Anna Fierke was in progress in Judge Edget's court today. According to the story of John, the following would seem to be the case: In the township of Kochville, June 27, 1874 [sic]. John Fierke, in the 24 year of his life led to the alter a bride of 44 years. She was a widow with eight children, and owned a farm of 100 acres of which 30 acres were clear. Fierke set to work clearing the remainder of the farm, which in the course of time he accomplished. During this time he claims to have supported the entire family and when the sons grew to be young men he helped to secure farms for them from his own toil, so that now two of them own good farms. On the 22d day of last December he came home from his work and found his wife's son-in-law and a neighbor in the house, and they drew up papers which he signed, thereby releasing himself of all claims to the farm and all personal property except a span of horses and a set of sleigh bobs. Such is his claim, and he wants a divorce on the ground of cruelty."

Published in the Saginaw (MI) Evening News, Tuesday, 12 Jul 1892, pg. 5, column 1.

"It is stated on the authority of a resident of Kochville that John Fierke, who was granted a divorce in circuit court yesterday, left his farm in Kochville last January and has not returned since; also that public sentiment is strongly on the side of Mrs. Fierke."

NOTE: Michigan Marriage Records lists marriage was on 5 Jul 1874.
