Elizabeth Jackson Hill was born in Holidaytown, Pennsylvania on June 25, 1878, the daughter of Peter and Rose Jackson. She graduated from Mansfield Normal School of Mansfield, Pennsylvania with a major in organ and became a member of the American Guild of Organists. On June 10, 1908 she married Melvin J. Hill, another gifted musician to whom she was a true "Help Mate" as he served as a Methodist minister until January 18, 1950 when he joined the Choir Celestial. His widow was reunited with her beloved on July 1, 1969. Her closing years were spent with her daughter Grace (Mrs. Walter Cline) in Clarence, New York where she died. Interment was in The Garden of the Last Supper Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda, New York. Besides her daughter she is survived by two sons, Melvin B. of Bayport, Long Island, New York and Byron W. of Chicago, Illinois. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. While she was a talented musician and a gifted organist, she always used her talent to assist and develop, never to supplant the musical talent of the churches served by her husband. She was active in church organizations and, when needed, taught in the church school, both Sunday and Daily Vacation Bible School. It would be hard to find a better vignette of her life of christian service than that given by her daughter. "The Church and its work were dear to her heart and her Lord was very near to her at all times. She was ready to go."

Ninety years along life's highway
With but little time to rest,
Ninety years of holy living
In the service God has blessed. M.J.H.
