Long time Odessa resident Geraldean "Jerry" Barton, age 81, passed away February 13th at Hospice House in Odessa after a five year battle with cancer. Jerry was born in Snyder, Texas on August 21, 1925 and moved to Odessa with her family in 1926. She lived in Odessa until 1942 when she moved to California to work for the US Navy. After the war, she returned to Odessa for a family visit and ended up getting married to Bill Barton on Jun 7, 1948; she remained a resident of Odessa until her passing.
Bill and Jerry owned and operated Western Nursery for nearly 20 years. Jerry was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Jerry's grandchildren and great-grandson were so special to her and she cherished her time with them.
Jerry loved her family and friends very much and was always willing to help out in any way possible. Jerry also enjoyed traveling and seeing new things. In the past few years she traveled to Europe, the Middle-East and Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hardy Smith, her mother, Ruby Smith, sister, Patty Smith and brother, Herman Smith. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William G. (Bill) Barton of Odessa, sons Glenn Barton and Jim Barton of Odessa, Grand-daughter Jamie McKinlay of Logan, Utah, Grandson, Colin Barton of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Great-grandson Jaxon James McKinlay of Logan, Utah.
Graveside services were held on Friday, February 16, 2007. The family would like to thank the Hospice House of Odessa for their loving care. Arrangements were entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
