William Calhoun Gibson was born on May 10, 1834 in Georgia. He was the second child of Allen and Mariah Gibson. The family moved to Talladega Co., AL in the 1830's, then on to Florida in the 1850's.

He married Eliza Julian Fleming on August 21, 1855 in Alachua Co., FL. They had two children in Florida before moving with his parents, siblings and their families to Texas in 1859. They settled in the Millville area of Rusk County. There they had six more children.

He served in the Confederate States Army, Co F 17th Regiment of Texas Cavalry along with his brother Churchill. He received a pension from the State of Texas for his service.

He died on April 27, 1911 in Rusk Co., TX and is buried in Millville Cemetery, Rusk. Co., TX.
