FULLINGIM WILLIAM E. "BILL", long time Dallas attorney, passed away September 2, 2001. He was born November 2, 1936 in Galveston, Texas and spent his childhood in Washington D.C. and Odessa, Texas. In May, 1954, he graduated from Odessa High School and enrolled in summer school at the University of Texas in Austin a few days later. He pledged and became a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and he also was in the R.O.T.C.

He received his Bachelor's degree in August 1959, and he was then commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps and immediately embarked on thirty-nine months of active duty (1959-62), serving as a Military Police Officer in France at Verdun in Northeast France and at Bussac in Southwest France, near Bordeaux. From his first duty assignment in the 61st MP Company at TASCOM in Verdun to his last duty in the 552nd MP Company in the 1st Logistical Command in Bussac, Bill was always in command of troops om platoon, detachment, or company-size units, and he always had operational responsibility for their duties as Security Officer, Assistant Provost Marshall, or Provost Marshall.

At age twenty-four Bill married Chantal Ameslon (age nineteen), whose parents were Andre and Odette Ameslon, and together they had two daughters, Sophia Elaine and Diane Cheryl, both of whom were born in the U.S. Army Hospital in Bussac, France. After leaving the Army in December 1962, he flew home to Odessa with his French wife and two infant daughters.

In June 1963 Bill started law School at UT and graduated thirty-six months later, earning his Doctorate in Jurisprudence in 1966 from the University of Texas. He secured hie first law job on 1 July 1966 with the distinguished firm of Thompson, Coe, Cousins, Irons and Porter. He continued practicing law until his death. Bill and his wife, Chantal, were divorced in 1980.

Bill was an active and devoted member of Phi Gamma Delta, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Longhorn Association, the Freemasons, and the Sons of the American Revolution. He also belonged to the Dallas Bar Association and Texas Bar Association.

A lover of art, music, and history, Bill was always eager to recount tales of his Fullingim ancestry. His chief intellectual interest was studying the Mayan Civilization, as well as other ancient civilizations. He left us too soon, and his family and friends miss his enormous enthusiasm in sharing his many passions.

Preceded in death by his parents, [Henry William] "Bill" and Lucy Glee (Hooper) Fullingim, he was survived by two daughters, Sophie Trahan and her husband Lonny, and Diane Fullingim; a sister, Patricia Handy; nephew, Jonathan Handy; and niece, Glee Wilson.

Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 5th in the Main Sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Rev. Bill Stephenson officiated. Graveside services were conducted at 4:00 p.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Decatur, Texas. Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home Cemetery Mausoleum 7405 W. Northwest Highway Dallas (214)363-5401.
