Stephen is an eighth generation descendant of Anthony Taylor. Anthony Taylor arrived in America in 1635 and settled in Effingham, Carroll County, NH. See "Anthony Taylor Family History 1635-1935", page 303, Section 155, for more details.

Stephen married Sarah Adele Rix, daughter of Oel and Lydia [Sage] Rix, August 1861 in Memphis, Macomb County, MI. They had four children - Charles Rix, Adrian Granville, Mayme Lydia, and Lucy Anna.

STEPHEN G. TAYLOR, son of Elijah and Clarissa [Granville] Taylor, was a native of New Hampshire and his mother's great grandfather was Lord Granville of England. Mr. Stephen Taylor was born in Carroll County, N. H., October 13, 1835. [He was] one of eight children all living, but one. Also their father and mother, in their native State, had lived together for 57 years. He came to Michigan in 1850. [He] was a school teacher near New Baltimore one term and then engaged as a clerk in a dry goods store until 1859 when he removed to Memphis and engaged in the dry goods trade in that village. This was continued for a few years when Orl [Oel] Rix became associated with him which partnership was continued until the business was closed out in 1864. At this time Mr. Taylor engaged in the milling business with Mr. Rix and on Mr. Rix retiring in 1877, Mr A. D. [G.] Taylor became a partner which continues at the present time. Mr. Taylor was married in August 1861 to Sarah A, daughter of Orl [Oel] Rix of Royalton, VT. She was born at Memphis July 13, 1843. Their children are as follows: Charles R born February 4, 1863 now in Detroit; Adrian G born May 20, 1867; May [Mayme] L born September 6, 1877. Mr. Taylor has been a member of the Congregational Church of the village for 16 years and a Deacon of the same. Mrs. Taylor has also been a member the same length of time. He has been for a long time connected with the Sunday school and active in all the improvements of the village. In politics he is a Democrat.

Missing from this bio is the mention of Lucy Anna, the youngest child of Stephen and Sarah, who was born September 11, 1882 in Riley Township, St Clair County, MI.
