Although the grave marker has J A Bailey other records show the name as Anselm Justice Bailey. Anselm is listed in the Emmaus Church Book 1856-1871 as a "white male member" and Lucy is listed as a "white female member". A line is drawn through his name on the list with the annotation in the left margin "in the army" and to the right "dead" A. Bailey was listed as present at a congregational meeting November 1856.

He died of fever in Yorktown.
