Francis served as a Flight Officer & Navigator on B-24H #41-29275, 777th Bomber Squadron, 464th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Coos County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1943 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in construction and also as Single, without dependents.

Francis was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was hit by enemy flak and crashed in Romania during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on April 17, 1952.

Service # T-124724

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
