RUFUS BRADSHAW BURGIN was the ninth-born of JESSE and ROSAMOND Burgin. He was a member of the 69th Regiment, Confederate States Army, and/or the 22nd North Carolina Infantry Regiment. He seems to have gone to war with at least two brothers, BENJAMIN M. BURGIN, and ROBERT LEMUEL BURGIN. BENJAMIN contracted typhoid in October 1862, but returned to the front by December of the same year. ROBERT LEMUEL deserted to the Union side and spent the waning months of the war in Washington, DC. RUFUS apparently remained on the Confederate side throughout.

Known not to rest at the same cemetery as his wife, MARTHA MATILDA GARREN BURGIN.
