MRS. MARY HUMPHREYS

Mrs. Mary Humphreys departed this life at her home in Lacona on Friday, March 22, 1912, at the age of nearly 75 years, after a brief illness with pneumonia. The disease baffled the skill of all human help and loving hands did all that could be done to relieve her sufferings. She was resigned to death and yielded up her life to a loving Savior whom she loved to serve.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Saturday, conducted by Brethren W. J. Hughes and M. E. Young, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

Mary Jane Caton Humphreys was born in Scioto county, Ohio, on May 5, 1837. She was married there on August 29, 1867, to Wm. Humphreys, who survives her. They moved to Iowa on Jan. 6, 1872 and settled on a farm near Oakley, where they lived until 1894, when they moved to Lacona, at which place she resided until death came.

In her 16th year, she embraced hope in her Savior and united with the Regular Baptist church in Ohio and in 1878 she united with the Primitive Baptist church of the same faith and order at Mt. Zion, near Oakley, remaining a devoted, uncompromising and consistent member of the same until death.

Her husband has lost a true and loving companion, the church a near and dear member, the neighborhood a splendid citizen. May the great head of the church comfort the husband in his lonely hours.
