Brief mention of the death of Mr. John A. Burgess was made in this paper last week. He died on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1885 after an illness of about two weeks and was buried on the Saturday following. Mr. Burgess was an honorable, upright man, prompt and scrupulously honest in all his dealings, an accommodating neighbor, a kind husband and father, and a citizen universally esteemed in the community. Mr. Burgess was born May 31, 1823 in the town of Thompson, CT and was therefore at the time of his death 62 years, five months and eighteen days old. When he was fourteen years of age, he removed with his father, Asa Burgess to the state of New York. He lived with his parents until 1846 when he went into eastern Pennsylvania, where he was married to Syvil T. Beebe of Susquehanna in 1848. In the fall of that year they emigrated westward to Wisconsin and settled on a farm in Sun Prairie township where they have since resided. He was the father of seven children, one daughter and six sons.
