He was born in Wilmington, August 17, 1931 to Floyd B. Gurganious and Blanche Pigott Gurganious.
Ed was a member of Harbor United Methodist Church where his fingerprints are found all over the church, he was especially proud of participating in the construction of the Prayer Chapel. Ed was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War aboard the USS Des Moines. He was a master crane operator working for the NC State Ports in Wilmington and Morehead City and retired in 1993. Ed loved to fish and is especially remembered for special fish fries at his church. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling and was a member of Bogies Plus Golf Group, Wilmington Bowling Assoc., where he held many offices and was Past President of the State Men's Bowling Assoc., and was a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame.
Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Gurganious; sisters Nancy Rumple (Lee) and Sue Gordon; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Hobbs, and Jane Carr.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 pm, Friday, November 6, 2009 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington as well as one hour prior to the funeral service.
Celebration of life ceremony will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Harbor United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Donald Shields and Rev. Charlie Hause. Burial will be in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Bordeaux, Frank Dunbar, John Harmon, John Melton, Robert Misenheimer, and Joseph Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Study and members of the Bowling Hall of Fame.
