Husband of Lucy Alice Hensley. Son of Thomas Gillaspy and Almeda Smith

Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, September 19, 1935

Ira Joseph Gillaspy, son of Thomas and Almeda Gillaspy, was born August 25, 1881, in Warren county, Iowa, and departed this life September 12, 1935, at his home in Lucas county at the age of 54 years and 18 days.

He was united in marriage to Lucy Alice Hensley, of Diagonal, Iowa, October 16, 1901. To this union four children were born, Myrtle, Robert, Frank and Clarence, the latter having preceded him in death. His father and one brother, Orval, have also passed on.

Ira suffered a light paralytic stroke a year ago and apparently recovered and enjoyed good health. On Sept. 3, 1935, he suffered another stroke and never regained consciousness.

He has always made his home in Lucas county, where he made many lasting friends and was liked and respected by all who knew him. He was a loving husband and father. Although he never affiliated with any church, he believed in God and all his handy work.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Lucy, and 3 children, Frank, at home, Mrs. D. O. Loney, of Derby, and Robert of Chariton; his mother, Mrs. Almeda Gillaspy, and his sister, Carrie, of Minneapolis, Minn.; ten grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Elder James Robinson, of Lacona, were held at Mt. Zion Baptist church near Oakley, with burial at Mt. Zion cemetery.
