By 1860 Amy and her youngest child, Stephen, were alone since all of the other children were married and had homes of there own. Amy found the work was too much for her so she hired a young girl from Iconium, named Caroline Corder, To help her. Two years later Caroline and Stephen were married. she was 18 and he was 19. their first child Melvina was born the next year and amy had a happy family one more.
Amy's happy famly was broken once more when six months later, when Stephen left to serve in the was of the Rebellion. He was captured by the enemy and remained in prison in tyler ,Texas for a year. During that time he spent in prison his sister Amy, Died leaving four small children. After being discharged, he returned home on august 19, 1864, but he never fully recovered from the affects of his suffering in prison.
