Vivian B. Babbitt, age 95, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Vivian Berniece Babbitt was born September 4, 1914 in Emerson, Iowa the daughter of Levi and Amy (Coppock) Huntsman. She grew up in Emerson and attended Emerson School. Vivian was united in marriage to Victor Babbitt on October 10, 1946 in Seneca, Kansas. They made their home south of Emerson where they farmed and operated a dairy herd. Victor passed away November 2, 1983. Vivian continued to live on the farm until moving into Emerson in 1989. She lived in her home in Emerson until her recent stay in the hospital. She was a member of the Emerson Baptist Church, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed working in her flower gardens.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Victor Babbitt; six brothers: James, Fred, Carl, Ray, Doyle, and Guy; and three sisters: Lucille Edie, Ione Schick, and Maxine Jensen. Survivors include her son: Vaughn Babbitt and wife Julie of Emerson, Iowa; grandchildren: Nathan Babbitt and wife Jennifer and their children Mya and Jake of Papillion, Nebraska; Michael Babbitt and wife Carrie and their children Laura and Quinn of Kansas City, Missouri; and Jared Babbitt and wife Betsy of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Emerson Baptist Church with Steve Colerick officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Public Library.
