Rulon passed away on October 29, 2009 on a beautiful Fall day in San Mateo, CA in the presence of his California family.


Born March 12, 1917 in Fillmore, UT to Thomas Clark and Millie Adelaide Peterson Callister.


He was a resident of Utah for fifty-one years and spent the remaining forty-one years of his life in California.


Rulon graduated with honors from Millard High School, where he enjoyed sports and played football. After a five year courtship, he married his sweetheart Merlene Paxton on June 11, 1938. Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married sixty-eight years before Merlene passed away on April 3, 2007.


Rulon graduated with honors from the University of Utah, where he received a bachelors of science degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation, he worked for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, NY. He returned home to Utah at the request of his father after the end of World War II.


Following family tradition, he worked in the telephone business Millard County Telegraph and Telephone Company. He was later the company's chief executive. Later the company was acquired by Continental Telephone Corp. where Rulon served in dual capacity as President and General Manager in Continental's Millard location. In 1968, he transferred to California. He retired from Continental Telephone Corp. in 1983 as Statistical Administrator of the Western Region.


Rulon was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings throughout his life. He had great faith and loved his Heavenly Father and Savior. He was a very generous and compassionate person. He helped numerous people throughout his life. He was a wonderful storyteller and teacher. Many people learning from the great professor.


Rulon served as mayor of Delta, UT. He had a beautiful baritone singing voice and belonged to the Deseret Sentinels having sung in the S.L. Tabernacle. He enjoyed his beautiful flower gardens especially roses, reading good books, biographies, listening to beautiful music and was a professional photographer. He enjoyed the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and watched them every Sunday.


Rulon is survived by his loving children, Judy (Gary) Workman, Robert (Alma) Callister, Janet (Roger) Fabris; a son-in-law Michael Hardcastle; grandchildren - Natasha, Franklin, Andrea, Nicole and David; great-grandchildren - Amberlie, Tyler, Katelyn, Kaden, Maya and Olivia; two sisters-in-law Berniece and Mattie; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sister, Edith Helen, brothers Leland, Duane, and Grant; and his daughter Ann Marie Hardcastle.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), where family and friends may visit prior to the services from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.
