VIRGIL L. STRATTON


Virgil L. Stratton, 71, Buffalo, formerly of Bemidji, died Tuesday in DVA Medical Center, Minneapolis.Virgil Lee Stratton was born May 8, 1928, the son of Jessie and Nellie (McCoy) Stratton, in Grand Forks County. He grew up and attended school in Bemidji. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1956. He returned to Bemidji. He married Arlene Lofgren on Dec. 12, 1956, in St. Paul. They lived in Bemidji, where he worked for Standard Lumber. He did painting at Tabers Bait and Tackle and Bemidji Lakefront. He worked in Iowa doing tilling work. In 1976, he began working for American Crystal Sugar Co. East Grand Forks. He lived in Grand Forks. He retired in 1979 and returned to Bemidji.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Vernae Stratton, Brainerd, Minnesota, Alice (David Olson), Laporte, Minnesota, Kathy Stratton, Bemidji; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; brothers, Joe, Fargo, Raymond (Barb) Buffalo, and Donald (Louis) New Brighton, Minnesota, and sisters Agnes Kujanson, Thief River Falls, Hazal Samson, St. Paul, and Violet (Glenn) Norberg, Spring Lake Park, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Services: 10 a..m. Saturday, Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji.

Visitaton: One hour before services in the church.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji, Minnesota
