Faye M. Broberg, 91, of Kearney died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at her home. Faye was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Bladen to Nels and Anna (Moffitt) Thompson.

On July 23, 1939, she married Welton Broberg in Holdrege. He died Nov. 12, 1985.

Survivors are: sons, Daryl Broberg and his wife, Carol, of Sutherland and Richard Broberg of Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren, Vicki Varela and her husband, Mitch, of Greeley, Colo., Robert Broberg of North Platte and Justin Broberg of Omaha; great-grandson, RaShawn Varela of Greeley; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson of Springfield, Mo., and Beverly Duff of Arlington, Texas; nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives.

Her family moved to Holdrege when Faye was 5 years of age. She graduated from Holdrege High School in 1937.

She and Welton lived south of Holdrege, north of Bertrand and north of Loomis and retired in Holdrege in 1969. Faye moved to Kearney in July 1990. In 2004, she moved to Northridge Retirement Community.

Faye worked 24 years in nursing in both Holdrege hospitals. She taught Sunday school and Bible school at the Evangelical Church in Loomis, was a 4-H leader, and enjoyed several clubs, such as Bible study, extension club and Sisters of Ruth and Naomi Circle.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kearney. She also enjoyed helping with tours to Branson, Mo., for several years and enjoyed many activities at the Senior Center in Kearney.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jim, on Aug. 3, 1993; sisters, Lila Parvin and Dorothy Mae Dusek; brother, Bobby; her parents; and sister-in-law, Doris Renken.
