Edward James Shirley, 78, of Hayden, died Oct. 28, 2009, at his residence in Hayden. The Blount native was retired from the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by parents Thomas and Girtha Lee Meador Shirley and brothers Carvin, L.B., and Buddy Shirley.
Surviving are wife Diane Shirley; daughters Allison Shirley of Hayden and Katherine Majors of West Virginia; sons Edward Shirley of Rosharon, Texas, and Tony Shirley of Oneonta; granddaughter Maegan Shirley of South Carolina; grandson Jared Majors; sisters Roselle Cowart and Mildred Taegue of Houston, Texas; brother Herman Shirley of Huntsville, Texas.
Phillip Jones officiated services Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. at Lemley Chapel with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oneonta. Pallbearers were Christopher Todd, Caleb Todd, Keith Belcher, Larry Leach, and Dave Fultz.
