Shawn McClure


Shawn LaVerne McClure, 16, of Laketon, a junior at Miami High School, was killed about 7 p.m. Thursday in a pickup rollover one-eighth mile south of Miami on F-M 748.


The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. when a pickup in which the girl was riding ran off the road and into a ditch. Witnesses at the scene said the pickup rolled over onto the girl.


The drive of the vehicle, Lee Ann Guill, 16, apparently lost control of the pickup at a curve in the paved road.


Todd Kuntz, 16, was also riding in the pickup. Miss Guill was not injured and Kuntz suffered only minor injuries and was treated by a private physician.


Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, Pampa.


Officiating will be Glen Walton, minister. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.


Miss McClure was active in high school events and was a member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ.


Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.L. McClure, Laketon Community; two brothers, Jon, of the home and Gary, with the U.S. Navy, San Diego Calif; and grandparents Mr. anmd [sic] Mrs. Homer Powell, Laketon, and Mrs. Cleo McClure, Gruver.
