IRA T. MONROE
LIVERMORE - Ira T. Monroe, 86, author of a history of Livermore, died Tuesday morning at his home in North Livermore.
The son of John and Clarinda this town April 23, 1852. Dec. 25, 1875, he was married to Ida C. Leach of North Livermore.
Mr. Monroe, had always been active in town affairs. He served on the board of selectmen 14 years, as moderator of town meetings 34 years, superintendent of schools four years and was justice of the peace. He had been a member of the Livermore Falls lodge I.O.O.F. 49 years and was twice elected noble grand.
He was known as "Norland's grand old historian," the author of "The History of Livermore and Its Pioneers." Both Mr. and Mrs. Monroe were active in Norland grange.
Mrs. Monroe, was the first president of the North Livermore Reading club. Both were active in musical affairs, having played and sung in church 66 years.
Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. Esther Beers and Mrs. Mable Lincoln, who made their home with Mr. Monroe."
