Sarah Mabel Barr, daughter of Charles H. and Mattie E. Magee Wedge, was born November 19, 1905, near Oakland, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, November 2, 2009, in Christian Health Care South, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of one hundred three years, eleven months, and thirteen days.

On June 4, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ira Edmond Barr, and to this union one daughter was born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ira, on November 26, 1985; her son-in-law, Clark Wilson, in 1989; three brothers, Ellis, Elmer, and Irvin Wedge; and two sisters, Gladys Wedge, and Jessie McGhee.

Mabel is survived by her daughter, Marie Wilson, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Paula Jones, of Springfield, Missouri; two grandsons, Michael Wilson, and his wife, Amy, of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Reverend Steven Wilson, and his wife, Melinda, of Carthage, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Boone, and his wife, Danielle, of Natick, Massachusetts, Ashley and Gabriel Wilson, both of Carthage, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Clyde Phillips, of Lebanon, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Raye Barr, of Lebanon, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

She was born and raised on the family farm where the Oakland Mansion is now located and attended Dalton School. After she and Ira were married, they made their home on their farm in the Oakland community, and lovingly raised their daughter. Mabel worked along side her husband in operating the farm, raised chickens, and kept the farm running while her husband worked at Laclede Electric. She also was a devoted homemaker that always liked to stay busy, particularly cooking and baking.

Mabel was baptized in the Long Ford River and attended Antioch Baptist Church and the Moravian Methodist Church in the Oakland community. After moving into Lebanon, she became an active member of Southern Heights Christian Church.

She was a gifted seamstress and loved making quilts. She was known for her homemade cinnamon rolls and would often make a large batch to share with the elderly people in her neighborhood. She loved her family dearly and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the true joy of her life. She had a great fondness for Marie's little dog, "Tess". For the last few years, she had made her home in Christian Health Care South where she was named Resident of the Month several times and was crowned Red Hat Queen. She was also honored to be named a Parade Marshall for the Lebanon Christmas Parade on her 100th birthday and to ride in the parade.
