Home of Robert Elder and family on Bear River destroyed by fire last week while he was at work and family gone for the day. No insurance.

Robert T. Elder, was one of the many pioneers who made their way to the Placer foothills during the Gold Rush. Eventually returned to Missouri, where his son Joseph was born. However, the family moved back to the Placer area during the 1870's, homesteading a ranch near the Bear River.

Glenda, I am a descendant of Robert Elder's brother. I have a copy of Robert's obituary from the Placer Herald. His death date is 13 Dec 1915.

His name appears in the Placer County Great Register of Voters for the year 1890. In addition to name, the Great Registers give age, nativity, residence, date and place of naturalization, and date of registration. The following years are available: 1867 (with 1868 supplement), 1871, 1872, 1873, 1876, 1877, 1879, 1880, 1882, 1884, 1886, 1888, 1890, 1892, 1894.
