August E. "Babe" Damman Jr., 87, of 2874 N. 99th Ave. E. died Sunday, July 13, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Zoar Church in rural Newton with Pastor Jim Olson officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in rural Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Zoar Church or to St. John's Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the day of the service.

The son of August and Sadie (Holmes) Damman, he was born May 8, 1916, in Laurel. He was a graduate of Malaka No.1 in Laurel. On Dec. 3, 1936, he married Dorothy E. Eibs in rural Newton. He was a farmer on Family Century Farm, where he lived his whole life. Mr. Damman was a member of St. John's Church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Byron E. Damman of Newton, Gary A. and Sandy Damman of Altoona, Denny L. and Judy Damman of Boone and Dave L. and Pam Damman of Marshalltown; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bob Damman of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Emma Groth and Nora Gleasnor; and three brothers, Bill, Lou and Fred Damman.
