Mr. James Thomas "Jim" Hyde, Jr., 85, died Thursday (Apr. 13, 2006) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after a short illness.

He was a native of Cherokee County, but he has lived most of his life in Waycross. He retired as a agent for the Internal Revenue Service after 35 years of service. He also served in the United States Army during World War II.

He is the son of the late James Thomas Hyde, Sr. and Bessie Kyle Hyde. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Mercer Hyde; two daughters, Marie Hyde Willbanks and Joan Popp; a brother, William K. Hyde; and a sister, Sara Larson.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Lairsey Hyde of Waycross; a son, Earl Carter (wife Betty) of Atlanta; three daughters, Bonnie Bennett (husband Greg) of Hilliard, Connie Hobbs (husband Franklin) of Hilliard, FL, and Linda Jacobs (husband Tommy) of Brantley County; a son-in-law, Greg Popp of Merritt Island, FL; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Hyde Brown of Plant City, FL; a brother, George A. Hyde of Miami, FL; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 15, 2006) at Hebardville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. Friday at Music Funeral Home.
