Leonard R. Edwards, 92, of Kearney, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at his home near Kearney. Graveside services with military honors will be on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Stanley Cemetery near Amherst, NE. Rev. Ed Edwards will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Leonard was born on August 19, 1925 to Charles and Louise (Daugherty) Edwards in Mancelona, MI. He served his country during WWII, Korea and Vietnam as a member of the United States Navy and later the Air Force. He married Vivian Axtell on November 3, 1949 in Yankton, SD. Leonard worked as a pile driver in Florida and later returned to Kearney where worked in maintenance at Kearney State College until his retirement. He was a past member of the Kearney American Legion and V.F.W. Leonard enjoyed fishing, hunting and building airplanes. He also enjoyed playing his guitar and singing.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Vivian of Kearney; children, Linda (John) Adams of Kearney, Robert Axtell of Funk and Nancy (Mark) Staggs of Blanchard, OK; 9 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and other extended family and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; daughter in law, Gail Axtell; grandson, Frankie Axtell.
