Marinus G. Aalbers, 78, a lifelong resident of the Prairie City, Monroe and Otley areas, died Thursday, August 11, 1994 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 15 at the Prairie City First Reformed Church. The Rev. Joel Brummel, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements. Memorials are being accepted to the Monroe Emergency Unit and the First Reformed Church. Survivors are his wife, Magdalene; four sons: Jerald of Des Moines, Gordon of Dallas, Texas, Mark of Chicago, Illinois, and Michael of Prairie City; four daughters, Greta Aalbers and Marlene Aalbers, both of Des Moines, Karen (Mrs. DeWayne) Repp of Albia and Anne Aalbers of Pella; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Edward, of Pella. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kenneth, in infancy, a brother, Frank, and a sister, Hattie Olivier. Mr. Aalbers was a longtime farmer in the Prairie City and Monroe areas. He was a member of the Prairie City First Reformed Church. The son of Gerrit and Maggie Poortinga Aalbers, he was born January 16, 1916 in Otley. He was married to Magdalene Keuning February 22, 1940 in Otley. They had been residents of Monroe since 1976.
