Robert and Laura were the parents of Lucy Flora Crabtree Barham(1903-1984), Thomas Archibald Crabtree(1905-1990), Mary Magdalene ("Maggie")Crabtree Draughon(1908-2003), Ida Jones Crabtree Hammond Spagna(1911-1986) and Annie Mae Crabtree Brown(1913-1993). Note: Laura's death certificate mistakenly lists her mother as "Laura Kenion". Her mother was Margaret Monk Kenion. Also, on the 1900 Census, living with Robert and Laura was a 5 year old girl named Lena Roberson, and it says she was an adopted daughter. No one in our family has ever heard of this child, so it had to be a mistake.

Laura died trying to give birth to twins. The first baby was in a breech position so he or she could not be delivered. There was no doctor present. All three died. One can only imagine the terrible pain Laura must have endured. Her seven year old daughter, Maggie, ran to the barn to escape the screams. She burrowed herself down into a bin of oats and was almost suffocated when they found her. Submitted by Larry Draughon.
