T. H. CAMPBELL

Mr. T. H. Campbell departed this life at his home in Benton township on Friday noon, June 27, 1902, after an illness of several months with cancer. At times his sufferings were excruciating but he bore them uncomplainingly and with fortitude.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. W. S. Blackburn were held at Otterbein church on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock after which the remains were interred in the Chariton cemetery.

Thomas H. Campbell was born in Washington county, Illinois, on February 15, 1846. He was married in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 17, 1866, to Hannah J. Robertson, who survives him.

They were the parents of nine children, all of whom are living and were with their father during his last earthly hours. They are: Mrs. Nellie Long of this city; Bert of Kansas City; Will of Emmettsburg; Winnie of Derby; Mrs. Maud Bonnett, Leila, Robert, Gladys and Bruce of Benton township. Two brothers, Captain J. W. Campbell of Elrick and Moses F. Campbell of Scranton, and two sisters, Mrs. A. Courts of Quincy and Mrs. W. W. Coles of this city, are also living, and all except for Moses were present at the last sad rites. He was here a few weeks previous and visited his brother.

The deceased was a gentleman of the best character and disposition - kind, generous and true. His social life was one of sunshine, and his home life was quiet and pleasant. He removed the briars from the pathway of those he loved and mankind was benefitted by his life.

Many were the admirable traits of his nature, which, if emulated by humanity in general, would make mankind happier and life more pleasant. His death is mourned by a large circle of friends who extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.

Husband of Hannah Jane Robertson. Buried next to his wife with only a stone that says FATHER.
