COUNTY FATALITY NO. 8 — Mrs. Gloria Jean Barnes, 81, of Canajoharie. mother of six children, was killed last night when this sedan she was driving struck a tree along Route 5 near Fonda during a rainstorm. Mrs. Barnes was driving east when she lost control of the car and struck a large tree off the south side of the highway. She was thrown from the vehicle and was believed to have died instantly.

DIES IN ROUTE 5 CRASH NEAR YOSTS
AMSTERDAM EVENING RECORDER,
AMSTERDAM N.Y. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1960
A 31-year-old Canajoharie woman, the mother of six chilJren, was killed instantly last night when a car she was driving ran off Route 5 between Yost and Fonda and crashed into a tree during a heavy rain storm. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department identified the victim as Mrs. Gloria Jean Barnes, who lived at 19 Barclay St. in Canajoharie. Four in Two Hours The fatal accident was one of four motor vehicle accidents that occurred in less than two hours last night in Montgomery County. Mrs. Barnes was driving east along Route 5 when the car left the., south side, of the highway and smashed into a large maple tree about two miles east of Yost. The victim, who was alone in the car, was thrown from the vehicle, which wrapped itself around the tree and came to a stop about three feet from the tree. The body of Mrs. Barnes was found lying between the car and the tree, just off the shoulder of the highway. The 1954 sedan, owned by the victim's brother-in-law, Donald E. Shults of Canajoharie, was almost completely wrecked and was towed to Swartz's garage in Fort Plain.
