Fred Aichele, 62,of near McLuney, Perry County died at 1:00 p.m. in Good Samaritan Hospital about two hours after he was struck by an automobile near his home. Dr. S.S. Daw, Muskingum County coroner, ruled Aichele's death resulted from shock. He had been under a physician's care for a heart condition.

Perry County deputy sheriffs said Aichele was struck and knocked into a four-foot ravine by a car driven by Dannie Dyer, 22, a neighbor of Aichele. Deputies said Aichele was walking along Perry County Road 61 when a neighbor, Rev. Wilbur McKee, stopped to give him a ride. Aichele was having trouble breathing and McKee waited a few minutes to allow him to catch his breath. While McKee waited, Dyer came on the scene. He said he thought McKee was having trouble with his car and stopped to assist him.

Deputies say Dyer pulled to the right and bumped Aichele who
was obscured by some weeds.

Aichele and his wife, Louella had left Zanesville before 10:30 a.m. Deputies said Mrs. Aichele was driving and had gotten about a half mile from her home when a youth on a bicycle nearly collided with their car. Aichele became quite upset and his wife let him out.

Surviving are his widow of the home, five sons, Robert of Corning, Route 2, William of Crooksville, Ralph of Youngstown Carl of California and David of the home: a daughter Mrs. Bonnie Rhodes of South Zanesville: a sister, Mrs. Marion Cannon of East Fultonham; a step-sister, Miss Margaret White of Columbus; two half-sisters; 11 grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.
