"MINER'S DEATH WAS ACCIDENTAL, VERDICT OF A JURY STATES
CORONER CONDUCTS INQUEST OVER CHARLTON'S BODY.
Was Killed in Explosion at Schoolhouse Mine, When Six Others Were Injured.
An inquest into the death of Charles Charlton, No. 309 Byers avenue, who died early yesterday morning at Jane Chinn hospital in Webb City from the effects of injuries received Tuesday night in the School House mine at Carterville, when six others were hurt, was held in the parlors of the Hurlburt Undertaking Company at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The verdict of the coroner's jury was that Charlton was killed accidentially[sic].
A number of witnesses were examined, but all evidence pointed to accidental death, caused by the explosion of a shot in a drift of the mine.
Funeral services will be held in the residence at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Complete arrangements have not been made.
Charlton is survived by the following relatives: A wife and father, Jesse Charlton of Almon, Mo., four sisters, Mrs. John Snyder of Fairborn, S. D., Mrs. Mary Musquain of Sugar Creek, Mo., Mrs. J. Williams of Mack's Creek, Mo. and Mrs. Charles Hazelton of Muskogee, Okla.; two brothers, Robert and William Charlton of Joplin."
