COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for Delbert R. Jones, 81, of Algood, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 1, and from 11 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, in NHC Healthcare of Cookeville, following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Overton County to the late John Sanford and Sarildia Stamps Jones. Mr. Jones served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a retired custodian with the U.S. Postal Service, working in Algood and both Cookeville post offices.
His family includes a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Maxine Jones of Cookeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Herb Snow of Algood and Debra and Phillip Anderson of Cookeville; and a granddaughter, Melissa Snow of Algood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Golda Mae Jones (who died Feb. 16, 2002); a sister, Glema Blair; and a brother, Hollis Jones. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to Shady Grove Cemetery, c/o Debra Anderson, 526 Kinniard Road, Cookeville, TN 38501. Rev. Paul Ramsey Jr. will officiate at the services.
