FREDERICK KREIS DEAD
Frederick M Kreis died at his home near Marquand last Friday night after a short illness of pneumonia. He had been afflicted with heart trouble for several years and had it not been for the latter affliction he would have most likely recovered, for his illness from pneumonia was not serious at any time. Frederick M Kreis was born in Germany August 21, 1843 and died June 19, 1903, aged 59 years, 9 months and 29 days. When fourteen years of age he came to this country with his parents and one year afterward united with the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Zion where he retained his membership until his death. He was twice married his first wife being Mary Fiess who died about the year 1870. Two children were born to this marriage. One of these children died in infancy and the other one, Mrs E C Smith still survives her father and is a resident of West Lafayette. Mr Kreis was united in marriage with Miss Huldah Bell, April 23, 1873. To this union three children were born, Miss Lucy A Kreis, Mrs Laura Lavisa Emler and Byron H Kreis. These children and their mother mourn the departure of a loving husband and a fond and affectionate father. The deceased was a well known farmer, having been a resident of Adams Township ever since coming to this country in the year 1857. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the family residence by Rev N N Harter and the remains were interred in the cemetery at the Zion Lutheran Church.
