Asahel Terrill joined the Foot Connecticut Troops in the spring of 1776 in Captain Robert Walker's Company, Col. Elmore's Regimen, and wintered at Ft. Stanwix, N.Y. When his year was up he rejoined the New York line. During the Battle of Saratoga at the taking of Burgoine, Asahel Terrill was coming off guard duty when an enemy cannonball struck him in the head and killed him. During the Revolutionary War Asahel Terrill's home had been totally consumed by fire while he was in battle. His wife, Hannah, survived along with only four of their nine children.
