Laurel Anne "Lollie" Martin, 85, of Superior, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at the Stardusk House in Superior.

Laurel was born in Superior on Dec. 2, 1923, the daughter of Anna (Jensen) and Fred Lien. She was a graduate of Superior Central High School and Superior State Teacher's College. On Jan. 28, 1946 she married Russell W. Martin in Concordia Lutheran Church.

She was an elementary teacher in the Superior school district. For many years following her retirement she continued teaching as a substitute. Laurel was an excellent and dedicated teacher.

She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell on Oct. 28, 2001; a brother, Jack Lien; and her parents.

Laurel is survived by her children, Janice King of Grantsburg, Wis., Terry (Susan) Martin of South Range, Wis. and Randall (Debbie) Martin also of South Range; grandchildren, Amy and Kevin King both of Superior, Ryan King of Brule, Wis., Angela (Doug) Martin-Gross of Apple Valley, Minn., Kelly Martin-Kurtz of Duluth, Minn., Tracy (Grae) Crofoot of Farmington, Minn. and Renea Martin of New Hope, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Asa, Layla and Kooper King, Alex, Tyler and Ava Gross, and Braydon and Brooklyn Kurtz; a sister, Shirley Martin; a sister-in-law, Roberta Lien; and her cousin and best friend, Mable Larson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th Street and Ogden Avenue. The visitation will continue on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, of which she was a member. Pastor Mark A. Holmes will officiate and interment will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne, Wis.

Pallbearers will be Ryan and Kevin King, Dennis Lien, Rob and Dave Martin, Ronnie Anderson, Bob Stromquist and Scott Larson.
