James Theodore Beaver, 47, of Mystic, loving father to Samuel and Lauren Beaver, went home to be with the Lord, while surrounded by his family, Thursday, October 29, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Groton, CT on March 26, 1962, he was the son of Robert E. and Cecelia J. (Brothers) Beaver of Mystic and lived in Groton all of his life.

He attended local schools and was a 1980 graduate from Fitch High School and a 1985 graduate of Thames Valley Community College, earning his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then went to work for General Dynamics, Electric Boat as an Associate Engineer for several years and currently was a Facilities Service Technician with Big Y Supermarkets.

Jim was an avid New York Yankees and NASCAR fan, and also enjoyed playing softball and played for many local leagues through the years. He loved everything about the outdoors, walking in the rain being something he would often do. Jim will always be remembered and regarded as a devoted father to his children; Samuel and Lauren, enjoying with them the outdoor activities he loved, often taking them fishing near the Mystic River Drawbridge, ice skating in the winter on local ponds and camping. They will also treasure the special memories of their weekend lunches with their Dad at Steak Loft. Just recently, they attended a New York Yankees game together.

Besides his children, and parents, he leaves his siblings, Theresa L. LeBlanc and her husband, David, of Mystic, Robert E. Beaver Jr. and his wife, Maureen, of Ledyard, Ellen M. Landeck and her husband, Lee, of Mystic, and Ann-Marie Booth and her husband, Greg, of Gales Ferry; seven nephews, Christopher, Daniel, Matthew, Tyler, Peter, Ryan, and Paul; five nieces, Courtney, Kelly, Julianna, Abby, and Paige; two great-nieces and a great-nephew.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 2nd from 4-7 pm at Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic (51 Williams Ave.)

A celebration of Jim's life will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Grace Fellowship Church, 102 Providence New London Turnpike, (Route 184), North Stonington, CT. Burial will be private at Elm Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a college fund set up for his children. Checks should be made payable to: Samuel or Lauren Beaver and mailed to Liberty Bank, Mystic Office, Olde Mistick Village, Mystic, CT 06355.
