George was born near the Devon Iron Works in Clackmannanshire, Scotland 30 March 1828. His parents were James Hunter and Mary Snadon. He worked in the coal mines. He read books and studied; he was self-taught. He was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 2 May 1847 in Clackmannan by James Burnett. George, his parents, brother and sisters sailed from Liverpool 29 Jan 1848 and arrived in New Orleans. They went to St. Louis to prepare for the journey to Utah. George went to the Great Salt Lake Valleyain the Luringstine and Renciad wagon train and arrived in Salt Lake on 18 Sept 1850. He worked for members of the company to pay his transportation across the Plains. George was called on a mission 8 Dec 1850 to Iron County. They went to Parowan and helped start the settlement. In 1851 he helped settle Coal Creek ( Cedar City) to help manufacture iron products. He was an Elder and a Seventy in the Church. On 23 Dec 1857 he married Mary Muir and later married Elizabeth Muir. He was called on a mission to Great Britain in 1866 and returned to Cedar City in 1868. From working in the coal mines, George contracted liver trouble. He always had a smile and never complained. He was a bookkeeper and helped start businesses. He was the first butcher in Cedar City. He worked in the Iron Works. He was a Justice of the Peace in 1874 and a Selectman (County Commissioner). He was always willing to help other people. George died 1 April 1882 in Cedar City.
