He and John Doolittle, son of Jimmy Doolittle, were included in the first group of pilots for the first swept-wing multi-engine jet bomber, the B47 Stratojet, which quickly became the foundation of the Air Force's newly formed "Strategic Air Command"; also served during the Korean War
