Maj. Gen. Joseph B. Dodds of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Eugene, Oregon died Oct. 14 of age-related causes. He was 85.
A memorial service was held in Colorado Springs, and burial with military honors was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
He was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Belle Fourche, S.D., to Charlie and Alice Ball Dodds. He married Bobbie Jean Dodds in Portland on June 26, 1948.
He attended school in Eugene, then received a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon and a master's degree in public administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
He was a career military officer who served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, and was a command pilot with 4,534 flying hours. He became auditor general of the U.S. Air Force in 1976, with a promotion to major general, then retired in 1980.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Zwyla Hollister of Erie, Colo., and Rebecca Nilsen of Edgewood, Wash.; a son, Matthew Dodds of Casper, Wyo.; a sister, Doris Elmer of Gladstone; and seven grandchildren. A granddaughter, Rachel Dodds, died previously.
