Leah Young, 82, of Anchorage died Oct. 17, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center after suffering from heart failure.
She was born July 18, 1927, in Salem, Ore. During World War II, she was one of the famous "Rosie the Riveter" girls, providing stateside support as an overhead welder in a shipyard. Then, in 1967, she moved from California to Anchorage, where she remained. She also supported her family as a homemaker and mother for many years. Leah was a member of the Salvation Army and was involved with many of their activities over the years. Leah was really devoted to family ties and dedicated to her family. She always maintained contact with out-of-state family members. She was also dedicated to helping others outside the family through the service of the Salvation Army. She loved her family and country.
Leah is survived by her sons, Delbert Campbell of Nevada and Herbert David Young of Washington; daughter, Charlotte Young of Anchorage; grandsons, Cole J. Young, Bryce A. Young and Eddie Robinson of Washington; and granddaughters, Veronica Tomblinson and Keria Bolesof Anchorage. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Allen Young.
