DEATH OF M.D.L. REMINGTON A well known machinist and Inventor of Woodburn.

WOODBURN, OR. Dec 19- - - Marquis deLafayette Remington died at 5 o'clock this morning of consumption, after an illness of nearly six months. Mr Remington was born in Hancock county, Illinois, February 2, 1847. He crossed the plains in 1853, arriving at Sacramento in September of that year. For several years he lived with his parents on their farm near that city, moving to Washington county, Oregon in 1859. From Washington county he moved to Silverton, in this county in 1863. Since 1872 Mr Remington resided at Woodburn. He married Miss Helen E. Welch, February 22, 1866. They raised a family of four children, three of whom survive him and are residents of this city. Eugene L. Remington, Mrs Estella Hardcastle and Laverne Remington. About three years since, Mrs Remington died, and one year ago, Mr Remington married Miss Florence Berry of Montana. Marquis deLafayette Remington was a machinist of marked ability. He invented the Remington traction engine, now manufactured by Daniel Best of San Leandro, CA. For several years he carried on an extensive business in the manufacture and repair of machinery in this city, but in 1887 he lost the entire works by fire. Politically, Mr Remington was always a stanch Republican. Funeral services will be held in this city tomorrow.
