Charles V Alvey, 90, 1638 W Ninth St, died at 2pm Wed at our Lady of Mercy Hospital after an illness of two years. He had been a farmer in the Elba community of McLean Co until his retirement in 1945. Born Feb 8, 1877 in McLean Co, Alvey had lived in Owensboro for the last 22 years. He was a member of St Stephen Cathedral and the Holy Name Society. He is survived by six daughters, Miss Ethel Alvey, Mrs J A Lanham, Mrs Charles Castlen and Mrs Mary Medley, all of Owensboro, Mrs J E Thompson of Lewisport and Mrs Richard Merimee of Tell City, IN; three sons, Clifton Alvey of Louisville and Charles Alvey and J R "Bill" Alvey, both of Owensboro; 25 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother Vincent Alvey of Detroit Mich and a sister Mrs Gertrude Digler on Evansville, IN. Services will be held at 9am Saturday at Sr Stpehens Cathedral wit the very Rev Anthony Higdon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mater Doloroa Cemetery. Friends may call after 11am today at the Haley-McGinnis and Owensboro Funderal home where prayers will be said at 73- pm Friday.
