Funeral services celebrating the life of J P (Jack) Pinkerton, 86, Tyler, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Share and Care Sunday School Class.
Jack was born May 15, 1923, in Hazen, Ark., and passed away peacefully on Oct. 24, 2009, in Tyler.
He served in the 94th Division of the U.S. Army in Europe and was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. He was a very active member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday morning greeter and volunteer in the Christian Builders. He also worked with the Gideons, served on the TASCA board and was active in the restoration of the Camp Fannin Memorial. He was most proud of his time spent with RPR Construction before his retirement.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Don; and sister, Bessie Louise Barden.
His legacy includes his wife, Lillie Coleman Pinkerton of Tyler; her children, Pam Beasley and husband Jimmy of Flint; Ron and wife Galya Coleman of Richmond, Va.; Brent Coleman of Colorado; Brad Coleman and wife Sharon of Richardson; daughter, Sharon Leonardi and husband Richard of Arlington; daughter-in-law, Pat Pinkerton of Tyler; four grandchildren, Sandi Baldwin of Arlington, Teri Wilson of Tyler, Lori Coe and husband Donald of Tyler, and Amy Chesley and husband Brad of Whitehouse; 10 great-grandchildren, Brooke Anne Johnston, Grant Mitchell Baldwin, Landen Jacks Dial, Scott Allen McGhee, Kayla Ann McGhee, Brianna Nichole Wilson, Walker Coe, Sarah Coe, Leo Chesley and Guy Chesley; and one great great-grandchild, Brayden Allen McGhee. He also leaves brothers, Therman Floyd Pinkerton of DeValls Bluff, Ark., and Cecil Clyde Pinkerton of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Letha Jewel Humble and Lodessa Davis, both of North Little Rock, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Green Acres Baptist Church Children's Ministry.
